Our hardy sugarcane variety has been growing in the Bay area of northern CA for many years. Roots easily from cuttings which grow into large lush plants similar to bamboo. Fertilize and water well, and harvest before the first frost. Stalks can be boiled until all the sugar comes out and then the strained juice is boiled down into a sweet syrup. Being a perennial ,the roots can be mulched with the stripped off leaves after harvest to protect from freezing and it will re-sprout the following spring.
